Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's first title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
