Much like Storm Claudia swept through the northwest the previous evening, Manchester City swept the visitors aside at the Etihad. It was a statement three goal win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their title credentials as they consolidated their standing at the top of the table.

Back-to-Back Setbacks for United

This scoreline signalled successive league losses for the United manager's side for the first time since May 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Ex- City player Jess Park came most likely to score, striking the post, but the away team were offensively poor and failed to record a solitary shot on goal.

The home side, on the other hand, could have increased their lead when a delightful Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it mattered little to the winning team. Previously unable to overcome any opponent who placed above them the previous campaign, City's side now have successes against Arsenal and United to position them in a strong situation after the opening fixtures.
