The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
